Bitcoin explained and made simple

Millie 2022. 1. 1. 19:47

One of my goals for 2022 is to practice English consistently and I hope to spend at least 20 to 30 minutes each day doing this.

I've been using a good application named "superpan" which is great for learning English.

I found this video from there. The video introduces Bitcoin in easy way.

I have selected the sentences that are important.

Actually, this video is quite old. It was published in 2014, so it has been about for 8 years now, but I think it is a video that explains Bitcoin easily and well.

1. Bitcoin is a digital currency which aims to do away with all the problems we have paying for things online.

* do away with : ~을 없애다, ~을 끝내다

* We should do away with any sterotypes or bias against ethnic minorities.

* The company had to do away with free lunches to save money.

* "Do away with that traitor!" the boss said.

* You should do away with the bad habits if you really want to achieve your goals.

2. Or even that you have that money at all without someone vouching for you?

* vouch : 보증하다 (to be able from your knowledge or experience to say that something is true)

* I'll vouch for her.

* They say New York is the city that never sleeps, and I can certainly vouch for that.

* He was refused entrance until someone could vouch for him.

3. Nakamoto left a paper on a popular cryptography blog which proposed a system of currency that solved all of these fiddly problems.

* fiddly : (작거나 소소한 일을 다뤄야 해서) 성가신 (difficult to do because the parts involved are small)

* I've been working on these fiddly bits all day.

* Repairing things at home is a very fiddly task.

* I hate painting the fiddly bits in the corner.
